Coffee on the rocks
You say you come here for the whales but face it, it’s the cakes!
That's what it says on the menu at our favorite cafe in Gansbaai, South Africa called Coffee on the Rocks. Yeah, it’s true. But hey, life is short so why not enjoy the good things, right?
If the weather is nice and if there’s still a table available we’ll sit outside on the terrace under an umbrella and watch the whales breach. Gansbaai is one of the best places to see whales from shore, and we love it because (a) it’s got such a good vibe and (b) it’s not touristy like Hermanus. But shhh, please only share that with your friends.
Anyway, even if we sit inside we’re happy because Vanessa serves up such great home-cooked food, and the truth is we DO go there for the cakes. And after our hearty lunch and cake we’ll take the path down to the rocks and hang out for a while to look for more whales. Ahh, life is good.
