Elusive giants
It took us a few days of game drives before we found those beautiful gentle giants: the elephants. Elusive creatures that they are, we did not have much luck in following their tracks — that is, until our last day at Legend‘s Entabeni Conservancy, spent with Head Ranger John.
When the elephant herd walked quietly out of the forest, the matriarch stood guard on the road as the others crossed with the calves — just meters in front of our jeep! Once the entire herd had reached safety, the matriarch took up the rear. We stayed until they reached the watering hole, where a few females enjoyed a dust bath and a couple of young bulls played. Before we hopped back into the jeep, John shared one of his stories from his years in the bush, which we now share with you.
